Nordstrom Timber

Nordstrom Timber was founded in 1953 by Herman Nordstrom. Herman Nordstrom was joined by his son Alan in 1958. The company was formerly the largest independent family owned timber merchants in Sunderland. In November 2022, Nordstrom Timber merged with JT Dove and is now part of JT Dove. The team has over 250 combined years of service and product knowledge. Nordstrom Timber operates an on-site joinery shop for machining and cutting.

Materials meet government and CPET policy and guidelines on sustainable forest management. Deliveries are offered throughout the North East with its own fleet of vehicles. A kitchen and bathroom showroom is located in the Hendon area of Sunderland. Main services include timber merchanting, bespoke joinery, kitchen and bathroom design, machining and cutting, and deliveries.

Sunderland customers frequently highlight Nordstrom Timber as a dependable source of timber, sheet materials and building supplies, with the range and flexibility of stock drawing repeat orders. Several reviewers describe the service as helpful and attentive, noting that staff are willing to cut wood to requested lengths and that this is often done quickly, in one case within about ten minutes. Prompt and accurate deliveries recur as a theme, with goods arriving undamaged and drivers answering questions about other products.

Named members of staff, including Alan Nordstrom, Lynne and driver Ian, are singled out for friendly and knowledgeable assistance, and Adam, an area manager, is praised for going beyond expectations. Customers mention purchases such as skirting boards ordered in batches during house renovations, insulation and plasterboard, oak for staircases, and sliding mirrored wardrobes, and the quality of the timber is repeatedly described as good. Prices are viewed as reasonable, including after the pandemic, and free cutting is appreciated by non-professionals. Reviewers describe ordering over the phone as straightforward and deliveries as early and cheerful, and many say they will keep coming back for planned projects.
