About the company

Wickes was founded in 1854 by Henry Dunn Wickes and his brother in Michigan, USA. The first UK Wickes store opened in 1972 in Whitefield, Manchester. Wickes was the first fixed-price builders merchant in the UK. Wickes has over 230 stores. It is a multi-channel retailer and is a trading name of Wickes Building Supplies Limited. Wickes sells building materials, paint, tiles, flooring, doors, and solar products, and has expanded its range to include trusted brands such as Dulux, Bosch and Makita.

It offers a Paint Mixing Service and a TradePro Membership. Wickes provides kitchen design and installation services and bathroom design and installation services, and offers a free design appointment service. It offers Click & Collect and home delivery services. Wickes has a Quality Assurance Team that checks production quality of key suppliers and independently tests own-brand products against market leaders.

What customers say

Based on genuine customer reviews

Wickes Milton Keynes serves customers seeking kitchens, bathrooms, building materials and decorating supplies, and the assistance provided by its team is the theme that surfaces most often. Accounts describe a heavy item being carried out to a car and a member of staff searching the stockroom for a replacement paint tub when the one on display had no colour label. In bathroom design consultations, Anthony is named for patience and product knowledge, reworking plans through several rounds of changes so the process stayed calm.

Click-and-collect orders are reported as waiting on a trolley on arrival, while tiles, tools and decorating goods are described as well stocked and fairly priced. Shoppers mention that aisles are kept orderly and that managers are visible working alongside colleagues on the shop floor. Straightforward access and parking, including bays reserved for disabled customers and families, are treated as practical advantages, and a catering van on site is viewed as a welcome extra. The consistent thread across accounts is a willingness to stop and help, whether that means answering questions about a project or simply pointing the way to the right shelf.

This store is always tidy, and everything is so easy to find. The staff are always on hand to help and can never do enough for you, and the management do just as much work as everyone else, which is quite unusual in most places. There's just 1 more thing that also makes this place an absolute delight, and that's the food van in the car park.

The young girls on the tills were very unpleasant. They were pulling faces, didn't seem interested in helping, and came across as rude and unprofessional. A little friendliness and better customer service would make a big difference.

Came to Wickes winterhill milton keynes ready to spend a serious amount of money on flooring — 117 square metres to be exact, around 80 boxes of 60x60 tiles weighing nearly 29kg each per box. Found the tiles I wanted, had a lorry ready outside, and simply asked the store manager if they could use the forklift to roll the pallet into the lorry. His response? “No, I’ve got a lot to do and we close in an hour.” Absolutely unbelievable attitude. I then offered multiple solutions: Use our own pump truck? NO. Use our own rolling cage to move the tiles? NO. Anything to make the loading easier and quicker? Again NO. Instead of helping a customer making a large purchase, the manager seemed more interested in avoiding work. I have genuinely never come across such a rude, grumpy, unhelpful store manager in retail. What should have been a straightforward bulk purchase turned into an exhausting experience because one person simply could not be bothered to do his job. If I owned this store, the first thing I’d do is replace that manager. Customer service like this drives business away. Avoid if you expect even basic assistance with large orders. Thats £2100.00 i will be spending some where else.

Click and collect, not click and collect. More like collect yourself when in the store. Not the kind of service I'm used to with other trade stores, doesn't inspire confidence that your order will still be available by the time you get there. The excuse, lack of trolleys!. Not very professional or dependable.

Great price but decking was very deceptive. The cheap £6 boards 2.4 ... they never had in its place were the £14.00 ..which we got charged . Not happy at all

Excellent. Looking around Milton Keynes. Wickes was the best for the best range of tiles, tools and prices that suited our needs.
