About the company

The Wickes name dates back to 1854, when Henry Dunn Wickes and his brother started a lumber business in Michigan, USA. The first UK Wickes store opened in Whitefield, Manchester in 1972, and Wickes was the first fixed-price builders merchant in the UK. Wickes has over 230 stores.

Wickes Luton has kitchen and bathroom showrooms with in-store design service, and offers virtual and face-to-face design consultant appointments. It sells kitchens, bathrooms, gardens, building materials, paint, tiles, flooring, and doors. Services include a paint mixing service, a free design appointment service, and Click & Collect.

What customers say

Based on genuine customer reviews

Tiling, flooring and bathroom supplies are what draw most customers into this Luton branch, and the breadth of stock held on the shelves is regularly described as sufficient to complete a project without hunting elsewhere. Named members of staff feature prominently in feedback, with Connor and Carl singled out for the patience and care they showed, whether recovering a lost receipt during a busy spell or identifying the correct blade for cutting porcelain tiles. Guidance on product choice recurs as a theme, since assistants are said to have pointed customers towards items that suited the task better than the options they had in mind.

The mix of departments, from tools and doors through to paint and garden goods, is generally found wide enough to cover most jobs, while free parking simplifies collecting bulky purchases. Help during peak times is described as prompt, and the readiness of colleagues to explain how a product performs in practice suggests enquiries are treated seriously rather than hurried along. The dependability of core lines combined with practical advice on the shop floor is what appears to bring people back for kitchens, bathrooms and flooring.

They refused a replacement because they want a physical receipt, and it’s not even mentioned in their terms and conditions, got picture of the receipt with all details showing clearly, hello Sean can you see just one review below mine , where the guy didn’t had the receipt at all and your brilliant team helped him to retrieve the receipt from their system, Why that can’t be done in my case , Racism? ? Or what ?? And don’t try to delete my review

Absolutely shocking customer service. I went into this store to buy paint and asked a very simple question — whether a product was suitable for wood and metal. Instead of offering any help, the woman on staff just told me to “read the label at the back.” Completely dismissive, lazy, and unprofessional. What exactly is the point of having staff on the shop floor if they can’t be bothered to answer basic questions? The woman (wearing a headset and glasses) made the whole experience worse with her attitude. No effort, no courtesy, nothing. Honestly, it would make absolutely no difference whether she was working there or not — that’s how unhelpful the experience was.

I lost an important receipt from a purchase made a few months ago and went back to the store for help. Carl was extremely helpful and took the time to assist me in recovering it, even though it was a busy time of day. He showed excellent customer care throughout the process. Very happy with the service.

I had a very uncomfortable experience at the Wickes store in Luton. I came to return flooring and wasn’t aware that returns had to be processed first. Instead of explaining politely, a staff member with “MVW” on her shirt loudly told everyone that the cameras would need to be checked, making me feel embarrassed and like a thief. I understand store procedures, but this could have been handled discreetly and respectfully. Customers shouldn’t be humiliated for not knowing the process.
